chanter top with stop key

hi i am looking for a chanter top with stop key, anyone out there looking to sell one ??? :astonished:

Metal or wood?

I’ve got the brass one pictured in the middle available. My plans were to add it to the next chanter I had made. That may be a while. I’m unable to measure the ID of the tube right now. I know it fit my Gallagher C chanter without a struggle. Interested?

hi tony i have dropped you a pm

albert

For the record, I had a friend check the ID and it’s 0.675" or 17.145mm

just out of curiosity, who made that chanter top? I need to get one for my set (my regs are coming in any week now and my maker doesn’t do a stop key).

Don’t`know about Tony’s one, but Bruce Childress makes them.

Mine’s quite user friendly.

The top one is Childress and the bottom is Simack (Mackenzie)

Thanks for all the inquiries. The reedcap was sold to the party posting the original request.

Answers to a few questions:
The plug at the top is in Red Lancewwod.
The tapered stopper is made from acetal (Delrin) and wire that connects to the key presses it against the tubing… probably to keep it from vibrating.

Sorry I didn’t take a close up, but the wire is threaded into the acetal, so you can turn to adjust it and remove it completely should you ever need to.
Very nice quality.

nick whitmer makes chanter tops, that when you turn the chanter,it shuts off. petty cool, its his own invention.

Tim Britton, among others, uses a similar twist/stop windway.

I make a valved reedcap. The valved reedcap works by rotating the chanter about its axis less than 1/4 turn. That way you can silence the chanter without having to lift a finger from the chanter to activate a key. I got the overall idea from Tim Britton many years ago. My design involves the use of nested sizes of brass tubing. Cost is $150.

Cool stuff, thanks Nick.
