Does anyone know where to get a cane chanter reed for a set of Sloan Smallpipes in A? I haven’t had much luck emailing him directly.

I have a Sloan D chanter and I was looking for a reed. A pipe vendor (and piper who I trust) who sells smallpipe reeds told me that pretty much they don’t interchange. He told me I should get one from Sloan.

Highland Piper is correct that not all smallpipe reeds will work in all sets and you would be best trying to contact Ray Sloan.
Maybe phone him but being careful about time differences.

I’ve had a set of Sloane SSP’s for nearly 10 years. I recently sent Ray an email to upgrade my set with a Baritone drone. I received nearly an immediate reply (two days). I asked him for a price for the drone as well as a new A’ chanter reed and received a reply the next day. He gave me the price including postage and told me that it might be two months before he could get to it as he was involved with another project. I PayPal’d him his money. A week later he emailed me to check on the size of the hole in the stock for the Baritone drone, and a week later he sent the drone. You should try him again, by the way the reed I’m playing now in the set is nearly 10 years old and playing well. I only ordered the new reed as it just pays to have a spare. I find him to be honest, dependable, very fast in communicating. You must have hit him when he was out of the shop or otherwise indisposed. Never had a problem dealing with him. Give him another try, good luck.
