Mark and Lizzie – I am looking forward to meeting you both!
It is interesting that in 2001 my wife’s family had a reunion at the Pinery Provencial park just down from Goderich. I was disapointed to learn from some folks in the next camp site that we had just missed the college and festival. (Lizzie, that wasn’t you, was it?) I was just beginning to get interested in playing the whistle then and remember found the brief story about the College very exciting. Sooo after 4 years we are going to make it to the festival !!!
Got the CD and tunes last week. I am curious about what other tunes are commonly played in evening sessions during the college.
FYI , here are the ones that are on the CD
John Brennan’s/ Strawberrry Blossom/ Green Fields of Rossbeig
John Brennans (Slow)
Strawberry Blossom (Slow)
Green Fields… (Slow)
Kelly the boy from Killane
Kathleen Hehir’s/ Dingle Regatta
Planes of Boyle/ Galway Bay
Jig of Slurs
Jig of Slurs (Slow)
Brendan Tonras
Cliffs of Dooneen
Archies Fancy/ Elsie Marley/ Muckin of Geordie Byre
Joe Cooleys/ Maid behind the Bar/ The Congress
Joe Cooleys (Slow)
Maid behind the bar (Slow)
Congress Reel (Slow)
THe Lakes of Sligo.
If you wanted to pick 10-20 additional tunes to practice before the college, what would they be?
Hmmm… understanding that there are many, many different sessions going on at Goderich, here’s a few tunes that make me think of the place:
La Bastringue
Cock of the North (aka Auntie Mary)
Whiskey Before Breakfast
Sourgrass and Granite
Pipe on the Hob
St Anne’s Reel
Tam Lin
Over the Moor to Maggie
If you’re feeling more ambitious:
The Dionne Reel
Tarbolton/Longford Collector/Sailor’s Bonnet
High Road to Linton
I think most of these were on previous Goderich CDs…
