CD search help: HD and Fiddle

I’m looking for a CD that features hammered dulcimer and fiddle. I’ve seen a few books that have arrangements for this duo, but I would like to get a CD as a gift for someone that shows this off.

Can anyone help me with this?

if you don’t mind a few other instruments included - the CD we played a bit of for you, Rick Thum’s “Reason to Dance” has both of these. Great CD, too!

Peat and Barley might fill the bill for you. It has just a fiddle and HD. The dulcimer player is an excellent accompanist. The fiddler’s classical background shows through but it’s still a very pleasant CD which I’ve listened to a lot. I bought it from CD Baby. Fennig’s All-Stars! With Bill Spence on HD, either Tom McCreesh or George Wilson on fiddle. Here’s a link to some info on Bill Spence: http://www.oldsongs.org/billspencemusic/biography.html. And it looks like the cds are still available at Elderly, or you could try contacting Front Hall Records (search for Andy’s Front Hall) directly. Here in eastern NY, these are considered classics of northeast style contra music, and they’re a great listen. (As are George Wilson’s solo recordings, but these don’t feature HD on all cuts.)

The Rick Thum CD I’m going to wangle as a Christmas present for ME.

Good music in the old timey/country vein, but I was looking for a Celtic stuff as a gift. I might get this one for myself once I’m done blowing my budget on Christmas goodies for everyone else.

I think that this might be what I’m looking for. I listened to the sound samples on the site and the classical training of the fiddler is not an issue. What hangs me up (from the little bitty samples that they posted) is the production. The samples they offer as wedding suggestions are great, but on the CD tracks the fiddle is a bit over-rich with reverb. Still I like their style and have ordered a copy of their CD.

I like “Heartdance” and “Strayaway Child” by Jerry Reed Smith. The recordings are fairly old, but I still enjoy them.
