So my cd reader/burner died, and of course I need a new one.. Being the computer “expert” that I am, I need to find out whether to get SATA or IDE, does anybody know how I might check out which one my computer is? My computer is about 4 years old, and is an HP if that helps any.

Open up your computer and look at the cable coming from your current CD drive. If it’s a big, flat, wide, grey cable then it’s IDE. If it’s a small cable with a smaller connection onto the motherboard it’s SATA.

Yeah it was pretty dusty in there when I took it apart, didnt have a can of compressed air handy, so I used the bellows from my uilleann pipes and it got the job done! Who’d a thunk it?
