I didn’t know cavorting in hospitals was legal in 1935 England 
There is no explanation in the magazine. It’s on a page with four pictures of May Day celebrations. Another picture is of Carmen Miranda dancing around a maypole with no bananas on. On page 34 there’s column labelled “Whistler Revealed” but that’s about the painter. There’s not much information about Stoke Park Hospital on the web but at least it doesn’t seem to be a mental institution-not now, anyway.

Those are RECORDERS,and they are MENTAL patients.I believe a photo exists of male patients in the BANJO ward(high security) 
I checked on it too, Steve, and couldn’t find anything…let me know if you happen to come across anything anywhere! I take it you have the mag also?
