Canine shoplifter makes off with rawhide bone

Ignore the “fun news” reporting (gag)–this is a great story (and it happened at the grocery store where I shop)!

How cute. That is exactly why we have never taken our dog to the local grade school on any day but election day. If she knew there was such a thing as a grade school cafeteria, she would run away every day.

For a long time, my kids insisted I bake a cake for our dog’s birthday (even though he was not allowed to partake of said cake, but that’s another story).

He also had to receive Christmas presents. One year I bought a lovely huge RED rawhide bone for him, and since it was already a festive color, I didn’t wrap it. (Yes, his presents usually needed wrapping just like everyone else’s, according to the kids).

He spied the red bone under the tree and promptly heisted it, days before Christmas. I found it, replaced it under the tree, and the whole process was repeated until Christmas morning, when he finally got to keep it.

This is what happens when puppies aren’t given proper parenting.

Dogs have a code of ethics, it’s just different from humans. Part of that code:
If I like it, IT’S MINE
If it’s in my mouth, IT’S MINE
If I can take it from you, IT’S MINE
If I had it a little while ago, IT’S MINE
If it is mine it must never appear to be yours in any way
If I’m chewing something all the pieces ARE MINE
If it looks just like mine, IT’S MINE
If I saw it first, IT’S MINE
If you are playing with some thing and you put it down, it automatically becomes MINE…

If it is broken, IT’S YOURS

I like the happy expression the dog has . . . very pleased with himself.

Just a little update: A woman someplace in the northwest (Oregon? Washington?) has said the dog is hers. Her dog ran away and she believes it “wandered” to a Salt Lake suburb where it is now surviving by shoplifting. Nobody has seen the dog since the store event.

This reminds me of another animal thief that we have here:

My favorite animal thieves are the blue tits who use to steal cream off the top of bottled milk. I don’t know if they still do that now or not.
