Can anyone recommend a good C whistle?

I don’t have a single C in my collection, and I’d like to add one. Does anyone know which manufacturers tend to produce reliable Cs? (preferably on a work-at-home mom’s budget)

Thanks,

Redwolf

My favorite is my trusty, oldtweaked out nickel Generation C. I filled under the windway with sticky-tack,put a piece of guitar pick on the blade, romoved the ridge in the mouthpiece with sandpaper(dremel tool),and the result is the purest sounding whistle I own. No chiff,a tadd bit soft, but very pure. Breaks octave with no squacking..Anway they run about 7 dollars and adding in a few cents for material and a little time you end up with a great whistle.

For a budget whistle in C that’s reasonably in tune, the two piece Susato Kildare small bore plays quite nicely. Some folk don’t like the sound of the Susatos, and this one does tend to be a little louder than, say, the Generation mentioned above. Price ranges from around $16 to $22, plus shipping if your local store doesn’t have them.

I am very fond of my silkwood composite. I got it used so it was a really great deal on a lovely whistle

Though my primary C is a Burke composite, I’m very happy with my nickel Walton C, purchased through Song of the Sea.

It is interesting to note that I was highly DISsatisfied with the brass Walton C.

I was given an unused Generation C recently and it was and is fine. It needed nothing apart from loosening the head to make it tuneable.
My other two c gens are equally fine.

I like the Clarke C whistle, though it requires a lot of air. After playing it for a while, I’ve found that it’s much easier to play than it was when I first got the Clarke. The Clarke probably isn’t the best C whistle, but it’s the only one I can speak of, because it’s the only C I have.

Peace be the journey,
Sara
