Calura Tin Whistle

Some years ago now I picked up a very old German Calura tin whistle (in E) at a flee market in Tynemouth for the princely sum of 50p. I’ve read various things about Caluras - even that they were manufactured in England by Clarke’s for the German market; it certainly looks like a Clarke’s, but with a very wide wind-way making it a hungry little whistle for its size, though tweak the lip as I might, obviously most of the effort goes in blowing a breeze.

So, is anyone here who can give me a little backround on Caluras - dates, locations and even (dare I say) value? Never seen another, before or since.

Hi Sweeney, welcome.

Try a forum search here. There have been a few dozen comments on Caluras in the past.

I see there’s a Calura in C now for sale on U.S. eBay. The description says the whistle is marked “Made in Germany.”
