I’m considering a Burke narrow bore in C, but I’m curious if any of you would have other recommendations. I’ve searched for a thread on this topic, but couldn’t find one. Thanks.
Impempe - very good indeed

Been considering an Impempe myself, if I may ask how long did it take for yours to arrive and did you have any duty to pay on it? (I bought a whistle from States last year and got hammered with charges)
Thanks
About 2 weeks, and no duty… maybe I got lucky! - Nice wildlife stamps exotic birds and things too.
Those look nice. What currency are the prices listed in? It uses a $ symbol, but I can’t figure out if its us$ or some other $.
As far as C whistles, I like my Freeman Blackbird.
US dollars I believe…
South African currency is called Rand. (not sure but I think so…)
I like C Blackbird too!
My C Bracker is a very good whistle. Hans can customize the tuning too.
I struggled with finding a really good C for quite a while. They were mostly just D heads on C bodies which meant a somewhat weak sound in general. I tried Blackbirds and Gens, even a Carbony, but wasn’t really happy with any of them. I even gave the Carbony away because it was possibly the worst sounding whistle I’ve ever picked up. Maybe I wasn’t prepared for how different it is so I’m not saying the everyone will feel the same way as did I. My C Mellow Dog has the D head/C body configuration but since the body is so big to begin with it was a very decent choice for a long while.
Then I found a pre-owned C Harper and there was an immediate wow factor for me. I’ve played the C Burke and a C Goldie. Both nice whistles for sure and they are every bit as big, bold and well tuned. But for me the Harper was the best choice. It just feels good all the way around and that’s a very personal thing. YMMV though…right?
Of course there are a lot of other whistles out there to try. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

A generation C is very good and inexpensive.

One vote for the Freeman tweaked Feadog C/D set. The C is an exceptionally nice whistle and you get a very nice D in with it.
Here’s a C whistle thread:

All the suggestions are good ones. I would like to add a Busman whistle to your list to check out. If you are not into wooden whistles, try his Acetal or Dymondwood models. The man makes truly fine instruments.
Best.

What Byll said.
I absolutely love my two Busman high D’s - one is bamboo and the other delrin/green dymonwood. If you can get a C from Paul I’d be all over it. Volume in spades and spot on tuning. Plus they’re beautiful.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I may have to hold a fund raiser to support my WHOA. So many good whistles…
…and there’s always a Sindt if you can endure the wait,
probably about 10 months now ![]()
One of the nicest C whistles I ever heard was Sindt C.
I personally like the Original Clarke tin whistle in C. I actually own one in D but I had the opportunity of playing one in C and loved it. It’s awesomely in tune and has a great original sound. ![]()
“About a year” even, according to the mail i got when i ordered one the other day ![]()
Also ordered a iMpempe Bb with a extra B-body today, i am excited, both by finally owning a B-whistle and trying out a new brand. Did read up on iMpempe here first though and they seem nice enough!
