Buying a Low D

This is it, finally i can afford to actually purchase a Low D. :smiley:

My budget is 250-300$ including shipping to Denmark.

I like the sound of the Burke and Sweetheart lows and i’m on the lookout for one of those. (Viper or Resonance)

Can anyone tell me the average time from ordering to delivery directly from the makers?

And if anyone has a used Viper (blacktop prefered, 170-200$ incl shipping) or Resonance (280-300$ incl shipping) for sale, please drop a line in this thread or a private message.

I’m sure an email directly to the makers would answer your delivery time question better than any of our best guesses. My resonance took two days, but it was in stock and I live in the US, so that means very little.

Using the US postal service, shipping to Denmark costs between $13.60 (estimating it as 1.5 lb) for standard airmail (usually about a week), to $34.75 for express service (7 days), to $73.50 for 3 days service. This doesn’t include insurance, but that isn’t very expensive.

Going by Fed Ex or UPS is more expensive, but far more reliable, as they have their own customs office.

This doesn’t include insurance, but that isn’t very expensive.

Insurance from the US to Europe with the US post office only covers the goods untill it leaves US airspace. Which really only covers it untill it gets onto the plane, in Burkes case, Chicago.

In one way you’d be better off going with a European maker but then US makers are cheaper considering the current exchange rates.

I ordered my Burke “pro viper” directly and it came right away.
I really like the Burke. It performs more like a flute than any low D I’ve tried. It’s loud enough to be heard in a session. The bottom D really honks. It does take more air than other, quiet low D’s (the volume has to come from somewhere!)
With the US Dollar so low I would think this an ideal time to buy from an American maker.

I’m almost afraid to state this for the record, but since I’ve had a Viper Pro for the last couple months, my Copeland Low D doesn’t get much play time at all. I think Mike made a heck of a whistle.
