Really. If you have to go through life wearing that hat don’t you deserve to be smited? Besides the hat not matching his outfit (partial good news), the hat does not provide for a pleasing silohette.
A student who survived being struck by lightning TWICE has put his good fortune down to the £3 umbrella hat he was wearing at the time.
He’s pretty clearly not a science student if he thinks the hat saved him. Unless he was, like, dragging a copper ground wire from his hat. If anything, the hat is what caused him to be hit.
And now HuffPo readers are going to think that wearing/carrying umbrellas is a good idea in a lightning storm? Jeebus H. Crikey … proof that science idiocy is non-partisan.
Now you’re just toying with us. Everyone knows that real Washingtonians don’t wear no steenkin rain hats or umbrellas or nuthin. Ye just walk around soaking wet all the time, or else yer some kinda furriner. Even the state motto “Alki” means “I am drenched” in Chinook.
I am a hat-fancier and I have one of those umbrella-hats. My family have sworn to disown me if I wear it around them. I can’t remember the last time I wore it, but it’s nice to have, just to freak people out.
Despite the fact the the entire region of England is a Drought-area, it is pouring with rain today, and I am wearing a waxed fedora much like Denny’s. Two solid months of similar rain might refresh the reservoirs.
Just in time for the Olympics too. Heh heh heh…
Carrying an umbrella or other similar sized metal object is not more likely to get someone hit than just being out in the middle of a thunderstorm in the first place. If you happen to be “lucky” enough to be close to where the lightning is going to strike in the first place a metal object like an umbrella may slightly increase your odds of getting hit if the strike occurs within a few feet(2-3ft) of the carrier.

“Now it’s time to say goodbye/ To all our company/ M-I-C, (See you real soon) K-E-Y, (Why? Because we like you!) M-O-U-S-E”, done in a very slow manner. Thank you, and ChaCha again soon!
Too bad about that. That was a favorite yearly field trip when I was in High School over in Westchester County NY and gave me a love of Shakespeare. One detail I remember was a huge wall mounted sundial above the entrance…donated by Timex!
