Busman Ironwood Whistle

As a special Christmas present for my dad, I ordered a whistle for him from Paul Busman. The wood Paul used is Ironwood (aka Hop Hornbeam, aka Ostrya virginiana) from a 100+ year old tree which grew on the property in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina where my dad was born and raised.

Of course, I had to have my own whistle from this wood. My dad called yesterday to say his whistle had arrived, and I picked mine up at the post office today. Paul turned the ironwood into an absolutely beautiful whistle, and it plays just like, well… a Busman. In other words, it’s a wonderful whistle. Given the quality of Paul’s craftsmanship and the source of the wood, I’m sure these whistles will become family heirlooms.

Great idea for a present John.

Nice.

The finger holes look huge. Are they bigger than normal, or is that a photo distortion? Are they bigger than a Burke session Pro?

Very nice indeed,I’m getting a Busman Rosewood in the near future…can’t wait!!

Definitely a sweet-lookin whistle!

I recieved one as a gift in November. It’s a very fine whistle. You’ll like it.

They’re ‘bigger than normal’ if normal is a Gen/Faedog/Oak. Bigger than a waterweasle too. Dunno about the Burke session Pro though, I’ve never seen one.

Great for half-holing and slides though.

I don’t have a Burke session pro, but I do have an older Burke AL-Pro D (pre-blacktip). For a size comparison, check out the photo I posted in an earlier thread: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?p=287897#287897
