I read that Joannie Madden recommends Mr. Burke’s Al Pro Narrow Bore whistles as ones suitable for slow airs. I’m not entirely sure that the same principle (of choosing alminium) will apply to other keys, for example, B. What do you think? If you own or have played a Burke B, which material did you choose (& why) and how does it sound?
Thanks!
I have a Burke B in Brass. Just for the triple “B”. No, I chose brass because it was recommended here as sounding more “traditional” than e.g. the aluminium models. As it is the only Burke I own I cannot compare. It is a very nice whistle, if somewhat unbalanced due to its heavy head. Furthermore I find it quite temperamental when not warmed up properly. But it is spot-on in tuning and quite pure sounding with a bit of chiff. Not nearly as much “traditional” as a Gen, of course.
Thanks for the info, Christian!
