So I recently recieved a Burke Session Pro and I am very happy with it, it has a nice sweet sound, but I was expecting it to be quite a bit louder. In fact, my Dixon with brass tuning slide seems to be much louder. Anyone have the same experience?
I did not have the same expectation. If I’m considering a $100 whistle, I read every review I can find. There’s general agreement that the Session Pro is not particularly loud. It is, however, adequate for a medium-sized session in which nobody is trying to drown out everyone else. It certainly has more volume than the Generation-type whistles one typically finds in sessions. If I wanted more loudness, I would use my Susato until I could save up enough pennies for a Copeland.
If you want a loud Burke, you’re going to have to get one of the composite whistles.
If you want a good loud whistle for $100+/-, the Silkstone alloy is one you might want to consider. It’s not harsh, so it’s not peeling-paint loud, but it still carries pretty well.
Hey guys. Im considering getting a Burke Brass Pro Session D at the moment. In fact I’m ready to fax in the order tomorrow. I like how you can give it some accents and push it a bit when playing without it sqeeking.

However, I’ve heard good things about the composite, but I like the look and weight of the brass. (Havent played composite) Could anyone throw some more info regarding the comparison of the two types?

Also- could people be saying the burke is more quiet because there are hearing a nicer 2nd octave- you know, not shrill or obnoxious up around the 2nd octave A or B? Hearing a sweeter upper octave may truly be a slightly softer but still “sturdy” and may just give a different mental picture of the sound. I’ve only played an older burke, but it didn’t seem too quiet. It seemed louder to me than an Abell.
(I’m really just a lowly a flute player looking for a good whistle…hope the stuff above is not totally crazy and doesnt sound too stupid!!!)

I have an older wide bore brass. My brass pro session is louder and has a richer, sweeter tone. I don’t know how it compares to the composite.
I don’t know how it compares with the composite, but , my Brass Pro Sessions is still my absolute favorite whistle after a year. It is loud enough to be heard in duo with a pipe organ, so that’s loud enough I guess.
I agree that the lack of “shrillness” may be what seems quieter to the ear.
I don’t think you could go wrong with the BPS. 
I must agree that it still is my favorite whistle, the most solid at least. I think I would have to agree that it really is balanced between both octaves, the second ocatve being very sweet and not shrilly. But If I want to be heard over a crowd I tend to pull out my Dixon or the tweaked generation. It is definatley a great buy.
I’ve had my Burke Brass Pro Session about two weeks. Its my favorite, love the balance between octives, and general sound. Most of all its renewed my hope that someday in the future I’ll get above beginner level.
It sure helps me scratch the itch.

i’ve got both the brass pro session and the composite session,and i love both. in a session, your dixon can’t win vs the composite session. and the sound is very rich and still pure, no shrillnes
