What are your guys thoughts on Low D burkes. I play a surprisingly good chieftain. Good round solid tone with good volume and dead on intonation. I have a D whistle that is perfect.
I love the sound of my Burke low D, but the fact is it takes a LOT of air and has very little back pressure. The Kerry Pro is easier for me at this point.
I’ve owned a Burke Al Pro low D and currently have a composite Low D. I prefer the composite. The Al Pro was very pure, sounded nice and was easy to play (IMHO). I just prefer the sound of the composite. But I prefer the sound of the composites in all the keys I’ve had.

Jim, would you describe the sound of the composite more “chiffy”?
I haven’t made up my mind whether to buy a Al EZ (or Pro) or composite.
Think you could send me a file of both, I’d love to hear the difference.
Thanks, Amar
Amar,
I no longer have the Al Pro Low D.
As far as the composite sounding more “chiffy”, I’m still trying to figure out “chiffy.” I think I would describe the composite as more “complex” than the Al Pro and yes a bit more chiffy, whatever it does mean. At one time I was convinced that pure was where it’s at but have come to value the little less pure…guess I find them more interesting over time and I think they blend with other instruments better. Just my opinion.
I have yet to do the sound file thing and I’m not sure how to do it. Also probably won’t have time for a week or 10 days to even try. If I remember right I think there are some good examples of both composite and Al Pro low Ds in “Clips and Snips.”
good luck
