A few months ago, I asked the board for a recommendation for a high whistle with a rich tone and a little chiff. I got a lot of responses, including the Dixon and the Burke C Brass Pro.
I got Dixon shortly after that and really liked it. It had just the right level of chiff for my taste. It was very forgiving and very easy to play. It was the perfect beginner whistle.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a Burke C Brass Pro. I’ve been playing an D AlPro for a few months. It’s a fine whistle with a very pure tone and excellent tuning.
The C Brass Pro is a fantastic whistle and very, very different. It still has the spot on tuning and ease of play, but the tone is rich. It has a bit of chiff and the tone is complex, with a nice growl. Like the AlPro, it’s well-balanced between the two octaves, takes little breath, and is easy to play in the second and into the third octave. No problems with clogging and it plays a decent Bflat with oxxxox. Since I got this whistle, I’ve played little else. It’s just what I was looking for. I’m (temporarily) cured of whoa. What a whistle.
