This is a very old Breton Carol from the Vannes area in France. It is on the Chieftains Celtic Wedding CD. I remember it as a small child when I lived in the area. I could do some lovely ornamentation if I could find a midi or abc for it. I want the words as well. Can anybody help please? In translation it means … What Noise is this?
I shall whistle from the Underworld.

You want Breton songs? I found a great site just for that. Lots of songs with music and words, all of them Breton, including the one you seek.
This link is for the English version. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/per.kentel/index_saozneg.htm
You are briliant. Thanks a lot. I have spent 3 weeks looking for it. This page never came up in the search. I even e-mailed the Tourist Info in Vannes for it. Thanks.
What an idiot I am. I was so pleased with finding the tune that I haven’t looked for any of the others from the Celtic Wedding. Now all I want to do is learn some really good ornamentation for the Breton Carol to play at Xmas here.
There are several songs from Celtic Wedding. I spent the better part of an evening with my liner notes at my side just checking through what tunes were on that site. But that particualr carol is definitely a standout.
Cheers,
Aaron
It is a beautiful carol. I’m playing it on the new Elfsong F and as it is a carol I will sneak into the Ladykirk Church which has high arched beams, and try playing it on the whistle in there. Ladykirk church was built originally exclusively so the ladies had a church as they were not allowed to attend services with the men. This meant female gentry mixed with milk maids and farm workers.
