Start with sitting up straight, and breathing with your diaphragm. It is like any other muscle if you don’t use it becomes weak. Sitting up straight keeps your ribs from closing off the bottom part of the lungs.
Dunno about exercises, but try taking up the flute - seems you’ll soon have a surplus when reverting to whistle - cf this thread on the Flute Forum - and the flute-beginner OP there is over 50 (and has a dinky nose
)!

Nice as that sounds, the gold of heaven is superior. Check out Revelation 21:18.
Thanks for the link–I’ll read it!

Why settle for unattainable, dubious fantasy when the real just might be possible?
Check out Revelation 21:18.
Don’t posses the requisite reference volume…
Why, Jem, we’re online together!
Heaven isn’t an unattainable fantasy.
This is GOOD news!
The necessary reference volumes are all over the place–or I’ll send you one for free, if you want it!
Thanks, Riverman, I appreciate the spirit of your offer … I respect your right to your beliefs, but can hardly respect the beliefs themselves. Should I actually need a version of the book in question for cultural reference purposes, I’m sure that I can find one readily enough, though which version??? I think that we are in danger here of straying from a little light jesting and joshing around the thread into Proctology Forum territory!
I prefer to fantasise about a real whistle made from Irish gold, embossed in a La Tene III style or maybe engraved in a Hiberno-Scandinavian Book of Kells style… dreamy!
…and I’m not sure about all the terms of your fantasy whistle, but fantasize a second, will you–one for me! It sounds dreamy!
Getting back to the breathing exercises. You folks are all technical about this, I just play for fun. You all seemed to have zipped right over my recommendation of a harmonica for breathing exercises and stuck with playing a flute as your recommended breathing exercises. Have you compared the two? Could you compare and contrast the harmonica/flute as breathing exercises?
