Breath Requirements of Ian Lambe Low D

I’m aware the Ian Lambe Low D is a soft blower and has an easy to reach second octave. But can someone who owns one or has experience of them tell me what its air requirements are like in the first and second octaves please. I’m returning to the whistle after a long break and ill health and my lungs are not in great condition. Many thanks.

Hi

I have a Ian Lambe Low G. And damn it needs a lot of air. The sound is nice (a litle quit) but i have to breath double as much as i have on the Susato or MkPro.
so honestly, i never play it…

Most soft blowers probably will need a lot of air, it’s part of the definition.

They work on volume instead of force, so it’s a case of deciding which you’re least able to produce. I was surprised to find force the easier of the two, even though it’s still difficult.

When it comes to activities needing strength, our bodies tend to build more of it and find adaptations that help compensate for shortfalls – technique, posture, timing, etc. So for me it was easier to learn how to produce more force than it was to provide all that volume (which was just exhausting).

Thanks for your input, guys.
