I’m gonna let it sit for a couple of days and then reread it, and have some people proofread next week, but other than that, my master’s dissertation is done! 9,455 words, 34 pages, 13 library books, and a heck of a lot of time sitting at the dining room table with my laptop.
To forestall the inevitable questions, the degree is in Linguistics and the topic is autism/asperger’s syndrome and how the linguistic concepts called Theory of Mind and Relevance Theory might account for some of the pragmatic difficulties that autistic people have.
Congrats, good to see more research on Asperger’s syndrome. My son
was diagnosed with Asperger’s about 5 years ago, and there was not a
lot of information available at that time.
Finishing a master’s thesis (that’s what they were called where I did mine; dissertations were for PhDs) is a wonderful feeling! (But it wasn’t wonderful enough to convince me to go for my doctorate. )
When I finished my dissertation, my friends in NJ composed a hornpipe for me, they called “The Scholar’s Hornpipe.” That was pretty cool.
Well, it was cool until I realized a few weeks later that I got a hornpipe as a graduation present, and that meant I had completely passed the point of no return.
Anyway, so how about a tune about Beth’s dissertation? That sounds like a jig rhythm.
