Brand new to flute -some advice please

Gale: “All right, ya hayseeds, it’s a stick-up. Everybody freeze. Everybody down on the ground.”

Feisty Hayseed: “Well, which is it, young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if’n I freeze, I can’t rightly drop. And if’n I drop, I’m a-gonna be in motion.”

:astonished:

I’ve been ignoring y’all for years, and vicey versey.
It works so far.

Seriously,

  1. Have fun.
  2. Listen to great music
  3. Play in front of a mirror occasionally. Many of us have bad posture and position because
we JUST DON"T DO WHAT WE KNOW IS RIGHT.
    OK, that’s harsh. I’m projecting.

Play music. It’s important.

Online tuition on this site with a free lesson with Majella Bartley (nice player) and the subscription seems reasonable

Hey Normski: Welcome! I’ve had a difficult time finding a ITM teacher who lives in my area as well. As far as I’m concerned, face to face lessons, from a good teacher, are essential; however, that having been said, and the fact that I’ve not been successful in obtaining a teacher for ITM, I looked into and signed up for lessons thru OAIM (Online Academy of Irish Music) they are based out of Ireland.-Online Academy of Irish Music | Learn 14 Music Instruments - Online Academy of Irish Music. Not only do they teach introduction to flute as well as advanced flute techinques, they teach other insturments as well, including voice. Being on line, the lessons are available 24/7 and one can advance at ones own pace. This works well for me in as much as my life is full to the brim with all kinds of things I’m involved with including my employment. The teachers are great and well respected professionals in the ITM world. The lessons are $25.95 USD per month and you can spend as much time on line as your schedual will allow. I play other instruments and have had lessons galore and the OAIM comes as close to a private instructor as one can get w/o actually having the person there.

I would also like to put in a plug for June McCormack’s tutorials, “Fliuit” and “Fliuit 2.” The first tutorial is for the beginner and the second book is more geared toward the intermediate and advanced player; both are very helpful. Good luck to you and enjoy the journey.
