This doesn’t correspond to my vacation time this year, and I doubt I could afford $640 plus accommodations anyway, but the festival is only about 3 hours drive from where I live. I might plan for next year’s event, although I hate to miss this year’s classes with Brian Finnegan.
Has anyone on the forum attended this festival before? I stumbled across it on the Net, but I’ve never heard a thing about it first hand, even locally. Just wondering about anyone else’s experiences with this event, or if anyone here is going this year.
I attended Boxwood two years ago. It was a wonderful experience. That year, the teachers were Kevin Crawford, Jean-Michel Veillon, Marten Root (Traverso), Chris Norman (of course) and a few others. You choose which level you believe yourself to be with regard to learning by ear. It’s set up so you can have classes with each teacher. Or, if you want to switch levels, you could probably stay with one teacher for a lot of it.
The food is wonderful–fresh and gourmet. I stayed with a family in the nearby village.
I’d love to go again, when the time/economy is right, and when another great set of teachers is present. This year’s looks good, too!
I went last year for the first time. I would go every year if it was closer. We made the effort because I am a big fan of Chris Norman but even apart from that, the festival was well worth it. (We’re in Germany…)
Go, especially if it is not that far away.
Zoe Cracknell (16.2.08 ) is another reason why we’re not going this year.
Boxwood is a brilliant experience. This will be my 3rd year there, and part of my inspiration for leaving Toronto to move to the east coast. It is a pretty laid back experience for this sort of music festival. Pick the classes you wish to attend; select your own comfort level (slow, med., fast) and change at any time if you wish; great faculty each year and a great bunch of participants from across North America and as far away as Europe and Australia. Lunenburg is beautiful, the food is great. What more could you ask for?
