In Ireland the day after Christmas has always been known as St. Stevens Day. In the vernacular the St. bit is left out and it is just Stevens Day. Anybody using the Boxing Day expression is viewed with great suspicion

I only know three people who celebrate Boxing Day.
And about a dozen who even know what it is.
I need to move to a less culturally retarded country.

But, yeah, the 26th December is St. Stephen’s Day in all of Christendom.
Come to Australia - Boxing day here is a sacred day - Sacred in Aust means you don’t have to work. In fact, If Christmas or Boxing day fall on the weekend then the following work-day is taken off. Love this place
If you’ve been to an American shopping mall and watched people fighting over post Christmas sale merchandise, you’ll know why it’s called Boxing Day…

Boxing Day is of English origin which is why it is celebrated in England, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Most American Christmas traditions are of German origin and therefore no Boxing Day. I don’t see how not celebrating something that is not part of your culture is “culturally retarded”.

Awwwww…that’s a precious baby! 
My brother-in-law has a new Boxer puppy–he’s just about thirty pounds now, and is a hyperactive ball of pure muscle! 
John - we have 2 - the one pictured above is Wyley - he was “rescued” from a co-worker who kept him in a cage. He’s going on 8 now, was 3 in that picture. He’s kinda big - 75lbs. And (I mean this in no way derogatory) if there was such a thing as Down’s Syndrome in dogs, he has it!
Buster is smaller (55lbs) and a brindle. He’s also 8 now. He was adopted from Boxer rescue at age 9months. He had evidently been beaten pretty bad, this many years later he still had submission “problems”.
I also had a boxer when Nate was born. Porky (another brindle) weighed over 85 lbs, but would let Nate do absolutely ANYTHING to him. They are great dogs with kids, but also need to know “who’s boss” because of their strength.
Their one main health problem is cancer - Porky came down with lymphosarcoma and had to be put down before he turned 6.
Nice to meet other Dog People! At any given family gathering around here you’ll find 3 long-haired mini Badgerhounds, a Rat Terrier, a Silky Terrier, and, of course, baby Boxer, looming over them all!

I’m actually born and bred in Massachusetts. (Martha’s Vineyard.) I’m just attending a prancy private school in Florida.
So let’s be nice. I’m not southern or anything. And I know a lot of perfectly nice people who are.
Not celebrating Boxing Day doesn’t make U.S. culturally retarded. It’s the fact that no one bothers to educate themselves on or take an interest in other cultures that gives America its unique brand of tunnel vision.
