I have been trying to find this music in a midi or abc or whatever. George, a sprightly 70 year old fantastic whistle player, played it for me and said I should learn it. Trouble is that he says it is French but doesn’t have any music. We don’t have time for him to teach me to play it and he tends to change it slightly everytime he plays it anyway. (OT) He comes to a newish Community group where most instruments are Brass but I play an Eflat Susato. Rock Around The Clock rocks on this Susato as well. A fewq children are now coming and playing Recorders and once they can read the music then they will have a chance to move onto a Brass instrument. Not whistles but it’s giving them a chance to learn music and an instrument free.
The previous incarnation of my current band played Bouchard’s. It seems to be a contradance favorite but is played like a classical presto, without hornpipe lilt and very fast. I never really understood why they called it a hornpipe at all and I hadn’t heard Quadrille attached to it… hmmm.
I’ll check with George on Thursday night fortnight but he played it as an air and not a hornpipe. he was talking about Le Grande Canal as well so maybe I got a bit confused somewhere.
