Some local college kids invited me to their this year’s Beltaine ritual. They said “bring your drums and spinning equipment”.
Drums I understood but I swear to the Goddess I thought by “spinning equipment” they meant bring a drop spindle.

But no! By “spinning equipment” they meant batons and hula hoops that they set on fire and spin around. That kind of spinning is all the rage with the tattooed youth of today.

Back when I was their age a Pagan ritual just mean get naked and dance around a fire.
We tried not to be the actual fire.

Yoga, wheatgrass juice and Rejuvelac aside, I feel so old and in the way sometimes.

I’m reminded of lyrics…

"Get your moped running… head out on the sidewalk… "

and “You’ll be old, and gray, and only in the way…”

I thumb my nose at them both! :stuck_out_tongue:

Rejuvelac???

I was going to comment on this one, but I … um … forgot what I was going to say.

Instead I’ll ramble like a senile old fool

Rejuvelac … sounds like the fountain of youth crossed with some kind of soybean milk substitute. I’ll just google it and find-out.

“Google - a gift to those who can’t remember when they got old!” (quote me - I won’t remember anyway  )

Parentheses: a word that sounds like Latin, but probably isn’t, that describes a device used by old farts to interject themselves before someone younger gets a word in. (Experience … ahh … that old bag of tricks never fails - good thing, because that old bag of tricks is all we got! Guard it with your life (or someone younger’s life - experience dude).

Uh-Oh … Google’s back with my memory:

Hmmm entry #1: “Rejuvelac is made from 3 day fermented wheat and recommended by Ann Wigmore of Hippocrates fame. Free recipes and real Kefir grains.”

here’s entry #3 - looks more promising and it mentions “lac”: "A 1999 study published in the Lancet found that consumption of lacto-fermented vegetables was positvely associated with low rates of asthma, skin problems … "

Hmmmmm - dot dot dot - means I’d have to actualy enter the site and find out that it is now some kind of catch-all site hired-out as a quasi spruiking hyper mall-ish web-dollar catcher. Too tired to do that.

Is cynicism a sign of elderly(ish)-nes or just my crotchety streak showing?

But of course it is a “boomer” thing to discover teh “fountain of youth” - it kinda goes along with spelling “teh” and not feeling bothered to go back and fix it. One would hope the younger contestants would assume I meant “That Eternal-High” - I’ll just leave it to them. Well? we have the money! We can fix him! And we all can remember when 6-mill was a large sum of money!!

I remember my dad recounting an event in his father’s youth when a school-chum (“Chum” - that’s old time language for the assholes that they had to put-up with and smile - of course, we’ve trained our kids to not put up with that kind of thing - to our lasting chagrine!) .. interlude … now that school-chum: he stole a penny from his dad (mum’s didn’t have pennies in those days) and bought a pennies’-worth of peanuts (used to say " a penance") on his way to school. … (dot dot dot - feel free to read the next post …). Now at my father’s first recounting, the bag was as big as the boy’s head, by the time we were shovelling dirt onto his coffin, he popped-up and swore that “that bag of peanuts had to be hauled ibto the schoolground by a team of oxen!!!” . (dot) and I remember when 3-pennies was called “thruppence”! And in MY day - we always doubled the consonant to indicate the hard sound following a vowel when encountered in the middle of a word!! Spell-check makes a mockery of all that. dot … dot … dot

I suppose I’ve done my penance - and feel free, now, to seek more crimes - like all the other boomers

Now … where was I???
