I came across a book the other day in the musical instruments section of a local bookstore. It’s called “The Piano Shop on the Left Bank.” It was written by Thad Carhart, an American living in Paris. I bought the book and read it in a few sittings. It is absolutely delightful. It basically tells a story about POA (Piano Aquisition Disorder). There is so much stuff in this book that made me smile and think of myself, in travels to meet instruments makers, in trips to instrument dealers, in noticing and putting words to the differences between various instruments, in my own laziness when it comes to music theory, in sharing this obsession with others, etc. A great read!
Thanks for the mini review. I just checked and the book is on order for the library. So we aren’t alone in trying to corner the market on instruments. I will have to read it when it comes in.
I always look forward to your posts and you contribute a lot of your time to helping others.
I’ve just ordered a copy of this book.I have 6 family antique pianos stored away! If I ever get enough space I might display them all. I have an upright that belonged to my Gramdma with awesome carvings.
Thank you for the sweet comments! I think you’ll love the book.
Six pianos, huh? Wow. I have an upright that my grandparents bought when my dad and his sister were kids. They took lessons on it. I suppose I could fit another one in the house if I got rid of the dining room table. Hee hee.
Yes Jesse I love you too, and if it weren’t for the fact that I’m hopelessly in love with my wife and son I’d…oops sorry I got OT. Thanks for the info on the book I’m taking it to the beach with me this week, based on your recomendation.
