Blackbird Clips

I recorded a couple of demo sound clips of the Jerry Freeman Blackbird D whistle:

More to follow (I hope) as the week progresses …

Cheers!

Oh my god!!!

If a goat was a bird, then the Blackbird is now my favorite flying goat!

(edited to say: more of that please MT!!!)

WOW what can i say, you really make that blackbird sing

It sounds awesome!

Thanks MT and thanks Jerry

Man ‘O’ man … if only mine would sing like that … can’t wait for it to arrive now … I bet it still won’t do it

Cheers

WOW!!!

How am I ever going to play that well!!?

That is some awesome playing on an awesome whistle!!

I am sold…that WILL me my next whistle.

Rob

Limited time offer: free whistling frog* with every Blackbird!

Stay Hoopy,
Mike

  • Frogs may vary in size, colour and whistling ability. The management reserve the right to substitute a frog with an alternative amphibian or Sarah Palin depending on availability.

This is going to make coming up with a logo for this whistle even harder.

Best wishes,
Jerry

seconded!

Wow, I have got to learn that tune!
The Blackbird certainly does record well. Truth in advertising…

I want a picture!!

My apologies if I have missed this somewhere but I haven’t been able to find any details of the “tweak” that is done on this whistle. Also, where does the black head come from? Did I understand correctly that the body is a nickel Generation? If so have the toneholes been worked or are they stock?
I would be interested in seeing some up-close pics of the tweaked headjoint if they are readily available.

Cheers

Jerry answered part of this here:

It’s a Scottish tune by accordionist Bobby McLeod of Tobermory, Mull, but it sounds kind of Cape Breton-ish to me.

Mine is a poor imitation of a setting by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh that I learned somewhere. I left out the B part for the demo clip.

Hey there’s something wrong with my Blackbird. It doesn’t play nearly that well.

Excellent tooting John, just excellent.

…just a minute…while I wipe my chin…[drool]

MT, NONE of my whistles play that good! I’m gonna sell 'em all!!

MTGuru, my belated thanks for those clips.
Especially the Mouse in the Mug clip! For me at least, that’s one of those tunes that sounds just great, AND it turns out it, surprisingly, is not as hard to learn as I’d expected.

I have a Blackbird, in D, but in hindsight I think I should have gotten one in C instead. I mean, I have more D whistles than I really need, but I only have one halfway decent C whistle, and I think I’d prefer a Blackbird C.

Glad you like them! I really need to put up a C clip.
