best headset mic for flute playing?

Hi gang,

I’ve been reading the forum for a couple of weeks, and I’m moved by the passion and knowledge you display for a hollow stick with six holes! I play flutes & whistles in a 4-piece group called “Whiskey Before Breakfast” in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The slogan we cooked up is “Tunes played with Celtic Abandon.” (Notice we didn’t use the phrase “Celtic precision,” or “Celtic Playing-Perfectly-in-Tune.”)

Since I joined 3 years ago, I’ve used a mic on a stand, and that works just fine. But I like the idea of the freedom of movement provided by a headset mic. Is there anyone who can lead me in the direction of a good one, with good sound for both flutes & whistles?

Much obliged,

Cara

I have two headsets I use:

Audio Technica AT889cW wireless headset microphone, connected to a ATW-1451 BodyPak transmitter/receiver:

AKG C-420 wired headset:

Both are very good, the C-420 does tend to be a bit more prone to feeding back. The wireless system is wonderful, but a bit pricey.

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks, Michael-- those are great suggestions. I think we can dip into the band fund for the fancy-shmancy one! BTW, I loved your exhaustive demonstration of all your flutes. Blow proud, whistler!
