Beginners homemade Whistle is breathy ,please HELP!

I have made a copper penny whistle, in the key of D, and I don’t seem to be getting the volume I think I should be getting. Also, when I play it it seems to be breathy. Does anyone have any ideas to help me solve these problems?

I have also made a copper flute. It sounds great,but it also is more breathy than I it should be. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably need to undercut the embouchure hole on the flute.

On the whistle, you need to tell us a little more about your design.

  • A large windway (the channel in the fipple you blow through). Good examples are the Clarke and Shaw.
  • A Large fipple window
  • Fipple blade adjusted too high (when you peer through the windway, the fipple-blade does not line up with the bottom of the airway).
