The “Barzaz” Rudall, Carte & Co. eight-key cocus wood flute is up on E-bay again this time, starting bid this time is a mere 3.400 sterling. A very nice looking instrument, but probably no bids again with such a high starting bid

The second one is (listed as) a Hawes, not a Hawkes, and I don’t think that’s a vendor’s typo. - quite an early C19th flute by its style (round flat keys etc.), too, I’d say likely pre 1835.
Agreed re: the Rudall - if he’d start it c £2.7k he’d likely sell it for over £3k. Poor strategy. But he’s probably scared of it going under £3k and determined not to let that happen.

Yes, you’re right there Jem, my mistake, a Hawes not a Hawkes.
Here’s a real Hawkes - this one’s a Siccama-style flute with a brille key as well. I picked up one just like it before Xmas (so much for “rare”!) which should be a stonker when i get around to fixing it up - meaty but handle-able for the small-handed…
