hi fellow fluters, flautists, puffers and all! I’m excited to have found this forum during my recent rambles through cyberspace. I’m not a frequent forum poster (working in front of a computer all day generally dissuades me from opening it on my free time), BUT a flute forum may be the exception.
My first question is about a Hawkes & Son ebonite flute that I own. A friend of mine has been borrowing it for several years and now I’m interested in selling it and he’s potentially interested in buying it. I’d like to know what would be a fair price–obviously I don’t want to rip off a friend, but neither do I want to just give it away. I don’t have a photo handy and haven’t seen it for a number of years, but it has…8??..i think…keys and a metal tuning-slide in the head-joint. I was told it dated from around 1860-80.
Any thoughts on a ballpark price? Much appreciated!
