Now, the only problem is, the bag is open! It has a bit of a …ehm… leak… The seller told me about that problem and sent some Barge glue along which apparently doesn’t do the job in this case:
Anybody have an idea how to fix this? Try another glue? Sew it? Rivets? Get a new bag?
Thanks, Claus
glue it with a bit of construction kit (called bison kit here)
thin layer on each side, let dry and press firmly together.
have something heavy press on it while it’s drying.
then, yes, sew it!
treat with seasoning and you should be good to go.
good luck!
edit: if i were you and had the money i’d buy a new bag.
Below is my opinion and I respect anybody else who makes a comment in this thread.
Sorry to see you burnt like this . I dout however that this was caused by the actual maker. As it is obviously second hand. What I’d recommend you do is contact Patrick. I’m sure he’ll be able to give you a hand with making a new bag. I’d also recommend contacting the person who sold the set. The bag shouldn’t have that large a whole in it. Seeing the state of the bag it probably wouldn’t be worth repairing. Are the drones in good condition?
I’d also recommend that the drones gets looked at by an experienced piper.
Yeah I would say there was a bit of a …ehem…leak .
Look at the bright side though. At least you have a practice set that you can still continue playing on.
Thank you for your comments! So all is not lost, it seems. The drones are in a very good condition as far as I can tell. I’ve had a look a Pat Sky’s website, and I found out he sells sewn bags only, so I guess the bag I got isn’t genuine. But anyway, before getting a new bag, I’ll try to get this thing running asap. You see, I want to play with my new toy right NOW!!!
Can anybody sympathise with that?
Claus

Ok so this is what I’ve done: After trying out various different glues with no satisfying result, I sent the whole set to Andreas Rogge, who fitted a new bag to the set. He also sealed the main stock from the inside, replaced the baritone reed and adjusted my chanter reed a bit. I just got the set back and what can I say, I’m delighted! Now I have a nice looking bag and a half set which works really well, or at least that’s my impression. Pretty difficult to get used to playing with drones at this stage… Here’s my first experiment, a march kind of a tune, its name slipped off my mind: my Rogge POM chanter with Sky drones
I’m looking forward to play the beast in tune one day. I have no digi cam at hand, but I might post pictures some time later.

BTW: Andreas asked me to not recommend him for doing that kind of job…
