Baby, you can park my car!
Yes I’m going to be a star
Baby you can park my car
And maybe I’ll love you.
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah!

The Ford Fusion has received good reviews for performance. However, I drove one recently from a rental agency in California. My problems was that I couldn’t see the car behind me as I tried to parallel park the car. Because of the high window in the back of the car, the car behind me was competely invisibale through the rear window. The side mirrows were also not much help. At that point I was cussing the designers who knew that this was sure to happen. My older Buick doesn’t have this probalem at all. Without any bumpers on modern cars, this seems to me to be a serious design flaw.
It’s a serious design flaw, simply because it’s a Ford.
someone I work with is a diabetic. He often has issues with his blood levels.
After a trip for work, he drove straight to the facility after getting off the plane. He drives a jacked up 4 wheel drive truck.
He parked ON TOP of a car. And didn’t even realize it.
Larry is no longer permitted to travel for work.
It’s definitely not unique to Fords. I’ve drive other rental cars recently with worse rear visibility than the Fusion. The late-80’s VW Jetta was the first car that I know of that started doing this. It’s done for a couple of reasons. It gives a bigger trunk without lengthening the car, also it’s more aerodynamic – you want a squarish rear-end to create more aft turbulence. The worst car for rear visibility I’ve ever driven is the Prius, which is also the most aerodynamic.
It’s why I drive a wagon.
Renaults used to have a visibility problem in front. On a Laguna, the windscreen columns are so thick you have to move your head to check what’s behind them, for safety, any time you consider making a turn. Currently we have a Scenic, where the problem is not so bad.
Earlier this year, in my street, I saw someone reversing a car into a parking space while she was talking with a mobile phone pressed to her ear. Scared the hell out of me. It wouldn’t be any surprise if that was a factor in the first photo.
