Yet of course this reminds me of an old Simpson’s episode where Homer had a band called the B sharps. I’ll take your Kerry Low C double sharp whoever said that I got the joke but a Kerry whistle might be nice.

I sort of wish I had it…just to say at parties I own a B# whistle…oh well…only whistle players would get the joke anyway and I don’t party with very many whistle players. Actually, I don’t party with any whistle players. You’re all invited over.

If y’all will promise not to go after too many whistles I want myself, I’ll let you in on a little secret.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m constantly on the lookout for vintage or antique pennywhistles so I can study the voicing and construction. This is part of my continuing project of developing whistle tweaks and whistle designs in an effort to preserve traditional whistle sounds from times past and make them available and affordable for the greatest number of players.
I emailed the seller of that whistle, and she told me certain things about its configuration that led me to believe it’s a pre-1980’s Bb Generation. And she emailed a photo, which, though very fuzzy, does seem to indicate that’s what it is. So I bought it.
As Peter and others have mentioned, even the old Generation whistles weren’t uniformly good. They still needed picking through to find one of the better ones. This also seems to be the case with the few I’ve been able to gather myself.
As always, if anyone of you notices an auction you think I might be interested in, I very much appreciate your letting me know. Those of you who have already assisted in this way have been a terrific help in my understanding of penny whistles and their tradition, and in the development of the whistles I have to offer. I’m very grateful.
