I’m looking for some help in using Audacity recording software for recording a chanter. I’m trying to get a small amount of reverb using the gverb effect but it either sounds totally flat or like I’m playing in a cathedral.

Are you applying the reverb to only one track? Normally you would want to “send” a reverb and have it “return” on a separate
track. If Audacity doesn’t provide for this with “F/X” tracks or something like that, then you can just duplicate the existing track
and apply the reverb to that new track. This allows a higher degree of control over the wet/dry mix. You can also pan the wet
track away from the dry track which makes a huge difference in achieving a subtle and natural sounding reverb.
