asking advice on low G or A

I just discovered this forum yesterday and I’m glad to have found it! I don’t know a single other whistle player in my area. I got my first pennywhistle (a Sweetone high C) for Christmas and I found it is easy to play. (I tried playing an alto recorder and got discouraged) Now I need a high D and I want to get a low A or G (some manageable size to start with on low whistles) I am leaning toward Susatos because of my budget - but I see they’re not very popular here! Is there really a problem with Susatos or is it just that people don’t like the tone? Thanks for any advice on what to buy!

I would suggest an A Whitecap from Mack Hoover. A better introduction to lower whistles is difficult to find.
Best.

The Dixon’s are pretty affordable too. I havn’t played one in g or a, but I like the way the high whistles play. Water Weasles aren’t too expensive either. You could get one of those without having to do much waiting. I’m guessing you’ll have to wait a while just to order a Hoover. I noticed the Shaws are pretty affordable too, but you don’t want one that isn’t tweaked. Let’s see…Jubilee makes A and G whistles. I have a low d of that make that I like.
I’m trying to stick with mentioning the not-too-expensive whistles that you won’t have to wait on long to get.
I guess if I wanted one pretty quick and money was tight I’d probably go with the dixon.
But there are others here with much more experience with G and A whistles. You might do a search.

Maybe not. He was all loaded up for March, but we’re well into April, so it’s probably worth asking.

I was just playing my aluminum Whitecap in A this afternoon, and it sure is easy to play–breathwise, that is–I got a couple of notes up into the third octave without even realizing it while working out a tune by ear, though I always have to let my fingers adjust when coming to it from several days of nothing but high Ds.

Check out the Water Weasel low G. Terrific whistle

The Water Weasel A is an even more terrific whistle.

Don’t be afraid to try Susatos. For the price, they are great whistles.

The WW in A is more terrifficker than teh one in G? I’ve been wanting one as a matter of fact. Actually there are several things I’m wanting all at the same time right now…

I second Byll’s comments. I’m having a cup of coffee and working on Carrigfergus alternating between Hoover Aluminum Whitecaps in G and A. Both are terrific “semi-low” whistles.

Yes. The A and the Bb are easily the best Water Weasels. Powerful, with a lovely tone that sounds a lot like a much lower whistle, but with almost all the responsiveness of a high whistle. A joy to play.

My A/Bflat Water Weasel set should be in the mail to me either today or Monday. I’m so excited! Good to know they’re well liked.
