What exactly does it mean when a chanter is rushed and taped? Are these considered to be something like temporary fixes or patches?

A rush is anything that resembles a rush (Marram Grass etc.,), The “leaf” part not the flower of course. It is inserted to alter the pitch of the chanter, or sections thereof.(most noted effect is the lowering of the 1st 8ve). You can use anything. It just needs to be experimented with for optimum result. Tape is for individual note hole tuning. (You can achieve the same by applying wax/chewing gum/blu tack/whatever above or below individual note holes to achieve same effect, just like you would with regulators). Temporary fixes?..Depends how good or bad your reed/chanter is.
