Are the Ginsberg pipe plans any good?

Well, are they?
I have Brad Angus’s second set, in C, modeled after these Ginsbergers. The bass drone in the plans is awful, it takes this stump of a reed and never plays very steady, likes to double tone, etc. The chanter in the plans has a 3/16" throat, huge. Definitely reamed out, Egan never went above 4.2mm, I’m told. 3/16" is 4.8 if you round up. Well…maybe closer than you’d expect. At any rate, these chanters were pretty unforgiving for needing a too strong reed for the bottom D to work. When Brad began copying a better measured Egan 16 1/2" chanter with a 3.8mm throat it worked a lot better.
Ginz’s Rowsome chanter has a 3/16" throat, too, I think. Great minds think alike. NOT! At any rate; any of you pipemakers had any difficulty with these plans? And any thoughts on having better measurements available to the public?
Ginz has some very good advice for building in general, I should add. His blueprints have definite value.

Close enough. 3/16" converts to 4.7625mm
