Appropriate Indoor Temperatures

When we have electricity (it’s been a problem lately) we set the thermostat at 74. In this old house that means it’s 74 in the kitchen, 65 or so in the livingroom and somewhere in between in the rest of the house, upstairs and down. I wear at least three shirts and “long-handles” under my pants all winter long.

When we don’t have electricity we have two old shallow Rumford fireplaces with coal grates which put out a LOT of heat with very little loss up the chimney.. The house originally also had a coal fired heating stove in the living room and the cook stove in the kitchen. These heated the whole house. The week before Christmas I was wishing we had all of the above back.

normally 64.4, with the cold outside (which was 26F) I had it to 68 max but mostly 66.2
we only heat ONE room: the living room.

OK! My furnace is working now. It became operational . . . the day it warmed up.

I hear we might have another cold snap though. This year, too.

Evil is putting it mildly…I always hated dealing with NYSEG. I’m very glad to have a woodstove now and not have to even think about them, let alone deal with them and their evil ways.

We keep the thermostat (oil furnace) on 65 during the day, and 60 at night…it’s a Mr Izz thing. If it were up to ME (which it is not…a fact which each and every person living in this house is grateful for), it would be at least 75  Well…maybe 70. I think I could live with that. Maybe. As it is, I shiver all the time. I wear a hat all day long…yes, I do like to wear hats, but still…as well as a sweater. And a scarf. Yes, in the house. Sometimes even my Uggs. And apparently I am the only one who is being tortured. Which, of course, is why I am not in charge of the thermostat.
