I googled “free Internet TV” and found 1000’s, most wanted a one time fee of $20. to $40.Do any of you have any recomendations about this?
What do you want to watch? All the networks have a web presence with
certain shows available for streaming. The quality of the streaming software
is variable. NBC.com, I’ve found, has the best quality streaming. Fox and
NBC have teamed up to build www.hulu.com which uses the same flash streamer
that NBC.com has, but with some upgrades. Only a few shows are represented,
but it also has full-length movies, and they’re trying to get other studios on
board for more content.
I have a friend who likes www.joost.com but I haven’t used it myself. It
requires you to download stand-alone playing software, but it seems to be
free.
P.S. All Internet TV requires a relatively fast processor and a broadband
connection.
thanks Fearfoain, I’ll check them out, I would like to find some with movies and news
Hm. www.hulu.com is the first one I’ve seen that has free movies. I’m sure
several will follow soon. Netflicks is testing a streaming service for their
subscribers. I bet a lot of new stuff will be out in the next year or so. Keep
an eye out.
News might be tougher. Though, I bet the 24-hour news channels will start
streaming soon, if they haven’t already.
CNN has a video “clips” section, as does Fox news.

For movies there are [cough] the pirate sites. Tons and tons of movies are on there if a person does that sort of thing.
MSNBC and BBC have some video segments. Some networks archive their most popular TV shows for free download, some charge for this.
Another option is to get a USB TV and a HD antenna. This is what I have. I can watch local HD channels on my computer without a monthly fee. Cost is a lot less than most HDTVs. Fast processor helps. This won’t work in locations with poor over air reception.
Yes, this works surprisingly well. Don’t use the antenna that comes with the
unit, though. There are some nice directional antennae out there cheap.
NOTE: I have a Hauppauge Win-TV USB. It worked well on my XP laptop
but when I tried it on my Vista system, it crashed Window Media Center so
hard that it won’t launch the Media Center anymore (no big loss, but I thought
some might like to exercise caution.)
I use Joost.
It works great.
I just set it up.
I’ve got a question for you. How do you turn it off? there is no X to exit and the movie controls only have play and pause, I’m not too savy especially with this new HP Pavillian notebook with Vista ![]()
but it does work beautifully
No its there.
Button far left on the controller interface. Its the symbol for startup/shutdown on your PC. You’ll know what it is when you see it. Just click it and it quits it.
Thanks
