Anyone want a Doug Tipple PVC flute?

It’s a PVC flute, in D, one piece, with offset holes for both left and right hands. The PVC is covered in wood-grain contact paper or something, which looks fine (but not like real wood, of course).

Sounds surprisingly good for a piece of pipe – you can hear one played by Michael Eskin on his webpage – and is in tune, and well-constructed.

I find the offset holes to be actually a hindrance for me, as I have large hands and prefer in-line holes (this flute makes me feel cramped). Someone with smaller hands would probably find this a comfortable instrument. The reach is certainly easier on this than on any bamboo D I’ve played.

Played for probably ten minutes total; I’m using a Dixon polymer now, which is great bang for the buck.

Paid $25, plus shipping, for this on E-Bay; would be willing to sell for $20 + shipping if anyone wants to try a surprisingly good flute at a low price. Or trades are fine. Or if you’re impoverished and in the Bay Area and want to make music, you might be able to just talk it out of me. . .

Anyone? Send me a PM; I may be offline until Monday, but will respond ASAP.

The flute’s found a family (a large one!) to live with.

I’ll try to get it out to you this week, Doc.
