Anyone using a Hoover Blacktop

I know you really can’t go wrong with a Hoover, but I only have experience with a Whitecap.

I seem to remember someone recently purchased a Blacktop with a Jubilee body. How does it compare to a Whitecap? Is the Jubilee body much better than a cheap whistle body?

I have a black top that i use with my own tubes (pvc, brass, copper and aluminium)
in several keys. I found that the sound is very different with differents tubes.

I have several whitecaps too, and i think that the blacktop has more volume and chiff but
can be play quietely too. It’s what i ask for to Mack, so you can choose the caracteristics that you want.

I’d like to say that the whitecap can be very loud if used with a large bore and big holes …

I have whitecaps that I use on Feadog D and Generation D/Eb and a whitecap on a Hoover D. These bodies are smaller than the Bingamon tonebodies and so the Blacktop I have is larger than those and won’t fit (though I suppose I could get a bit of tape and it might). I like the whitecap a great deal, but the Blacktop is better in my view. Less clogging. The sound has more volume and is richer with the Bingamon D compared to either the Feadog or the Generation with whitecap. Still has the trademark Mack Hoover sweetness.

The tonebodies from Bingamon have a default frosted shellac finish and I wonder if this might develop whistle leprosy later and not look as good (I don’t recall if Daniel has options for the finish or not), but the sound with the Blacktop is really nice.

I like the combination very much and would recommend it. PM if you have other questions.

I’m using a blacktop on an oak C tube, and I’m very pleased with it. Great tone, very playable, and clogs less than my whitecap D (which I like too)

And thanks to all of you. I have been considering a new Hoover whistle, but there are so many options in tubes and heads to consider. Since my whistle funds are limited at the moment, I appreciate learning from your experiences.

One thing I have noticed in searching old threads. It’s hard to find a bad review of any of Mack’s instruments.
