Anyone have a couple of extra passes to this week’s NAMM show in Anaheim?
Last year I attended, spent the day playing with Michael Copeland and Jim Rementer in the Copeland booth demonstrating whistles, but this year, I haven’t been able track down any passes…
Geez, Eskin, first ya go to the Electronics show and now Namm. I always thought it was weird that CES and MacWorld are simultaneous, and frankly, I think the former would be better than seeing Jobs again in his turtleneck.. You must be quite the gadgeteer! Hope you write a column or something to write it off! We will verify that you reported to us your findings! Did you buy one of those big ol HDTVs?
When I was music store manager, I had good relationship with Coast rep, who distributed Takamines and Kaman products (Ovations, etc). I almost went one year but was too much of a stay-at-home to just do it.
But now that I know there are whistlers there, it puts a new spin on things.
Actually, trad music is reasonably well represented there… Last year Copeland woodwinds was exhibiting, as well as Hobgoblin music, a few others. Certainly no shortage of acoustic instruments, I particularly enjoyed the GoldTone irish tenor banjos…
I just picked up a Gold Tone tenor banjo, hmm Model IT-250 I believe. Very nice for the price.
Michael, any more word on the Sony HiMD recorders? The iRiver gadgets are calling to me, but if I can get a MD player that uploads in a wav or mp3 format over a USB cable I’m getting one of those! Specially if it’s backwards compatible with old media.
I read some not-so-favorable things about the iRiver hard disk recorder when used as a recorder. Something about the hardware dropping samples. I had considered buying one until I read the enthusiasts message boards.
Really, what I should buy is a Marantz PMD-670 compactflash recorder, and I want it in stock with a local dealer so I can make it an impulse buy and play with it tonight, but it is not to be…
Ah, good to hear. I hadn’t seriously looked into the iRiver recorders yet, and what I had read was only reviewing it as a player.
My MD recorder is sooo close to being the perfect device; compact, sturdy, long battery life, decent audio quality. It’s just the real-time output that bugs the life out of me. If they can fix that, I’d put down the cash. I don’t care if they apply DRM to files copied from a PC, I just want to copy recordings I make through the mic. Grrrr.
The Marantz seems pretty nice, but you have to use an XLR mic with it, right? I like the small condenser mike I use with the MD recorder and would rather not have to use my Shure in a session, a bit too in the way.
