I hate to be such a critic, especially when my guitars sit gathering dust, and my fingertips are now too tender to play for more than just a few minutes… but all Johnson products I’ve encountered are very poorly made.
You’d be much happier with something made by Roland or Boss.
I can also recommend anything by Zoom, if you’ve got plenty of spare time to learn how to operate the damned things… it’s mind-boggling how much stuff they cram into even their most basic effects pedals! 
Hmm, methinks you are thinking of the “Other” Johnson company, the one that makes all the crappy stuff…or maybe not. The stuff I’ve seen is really quite good - particularly the modeling amps, which are now out of production (due to the company being bought by digi-tech i believe), however the sound quality still whips the pants off the other modeling amps out there. The J8 pedal isn’t an effects pedal though, it’s a controller pedal for their amps, as well as the J-Station.
Now, if you’ve got some nice guitars gathering dust, maybe we should talk

Ah, I didn’t know there were two different Johnson companies… and the J8 pedal certainly looks like an effects pedal.
The Johnson guitars and amps I’ve seen are pure junk, and I just assumed they’d branched out into effects pedals as well.
Sorry, but I’d only part with two guitars out of my collection… and neither of them is really very nice (12-string Yamaha & Martin Backpacker).
I couldn’t bear to part with my signature series Peavey Vandenberg, Ovation, or Simon & Patrick… no matter how much dust they gather! 
I still like to piss off the neighbors every now and then with a little Hendrix tribute, and occasionally play Puff The Magic Dragon on one of my accoustics just to see if I still can! 
Just get a Line6 Flextone amp. Always duplicated but never beaten. Hey I saw a Wanabe Flextone amp (don’t remember the company) that Had a Line6 Flextone II setting built in lol… I asked to use the exact Make and Model of Both My Axe’s Ibanez RG series and a Fender Stratocaster. They didn’t sound nearly as good on the 2x10" wannabe Line6 amp as the Do on my FlextoneII IMHO. I have a Roland GS-6 Digital prossesor for a rack system just laying around collecting dust…
Sorry dude, but it’s nearly universally agreed that Johnson’s Amp models sound far better than any of the Line 6 stuff, don’t believe me, go read the reviews at harmony central, or go find a Johnson (used) and plug-in, there’s no comparison really. Unfortunately Johnson’s modeling was so good that an effects company bought them out and promptly discontiuned the amps: Who the hell is going to buy a bunch of pedals when you can buy one amp that sounds like 27, plus has chorus, delay, and reverb built in? Smart move for Digi-tech, sad day for consumers because now we’re stuck with the lame sounding and not particularly user friendly Line 6 stuff (unless you buy a used Johnson.)

Yeah, the Johnson company that makes both amps AND guitars, is the one that makes the really crappy stuff, the one I’m referring to is something completely different.
And yeah, I can totally understand not wanting to part with your favorite guitars, even if they aren’t getting played.
