I’ll be doing my annual pilgrimage to the Goderich Celtic College and Festival next week and was wondering if any other UP’ers will be there???
http://www.celticfestival.ca/
I don’t think there are any classes for piping this year. Keith Easedale was doing an “All Pipes” class the last couple of years which was fun. He got us all playing together…Highland pipes, UPs, English pipes, border pipes, small pipes and electronic pipes. Quite an accomplishment!
Anyway…I’ll be getting there on Tuesday and will be in the Instrument Repair shop. My only goal is to do reedmaking, reedmaking and more reedmaking. If anyone else is interested then do drop into the room.
Also, if anyone want to get together for piping let me know as well!!!

Hey Magroibin:
Bueller here
If I can steal away, I might make it up there Saturday the 6th. Are you going to be there on Saturday? Not a bad drive from Port Huron/Sarnia area for me.
I’ll know better midweek and let you know.
Ferris
Good to hear from you John (Ferris??),
I didn’t know there was an American piper so close to me (London, Ont.)
I’ll most definately be there on the Saturday. Look for the “Other UP’er” at sessions! With only 2 so far I shouldn’t be hard to spot!
Actually, come to think of it Sean Keane (the singer) also plays pipes. Perhaps he’ll bring them out this year. And Janice Waldrun, who lurks on this list, is teaching whistle again this year and she’s a fine piper as well.
So look for a guy playing pipes who is not Sean Keane…that’ll most likely be me…unless it’s someone else.
See you there,
Paul
(Ben Stein??)
A wee update from Goderich:
Sorry I missed you John. I was told by Jeremy Keddy that someone was looking for me and I thought it would be yourself. Oh well…there’s always the Chris Langan Weekend.
Not much UP playing at Goderich other than for Jeremy Keddy, Dave from Seattle (Hi Dave) and myself. I was blown away by Dave’s absolutely gorgeous Rogge Full Set.
Wow!
Also I remember Jeremy from when he lived in Toronto and holy cow what a piper he’s become! Fantastic chanter work…and not afraid to use the regulators to great effect. 'Twas an inspiration. (He’s the one with the Seth Gallagher set for sale. He gave me a go on them…a very nice set indeed.)
Other than that I spent 3 days straight in the instrument repair shop just working on new reeds and helping others tweak theirs. Got some piping in at various sessions but more whistle playing really.
The highlights for me were listening to Jeremy play, and a couple of late one on one sessions I had with James Fagan.. a great bousouki player from New Zealand and Andy Webster (of the band Brolum) . Amazing how a great accompanyist can lift your playing!!!
P.S. I heard that Debbie Quigley (with Martin Gould on guitar) is coming out with a new CD!!! Should be ready before Christmas.

I had a great time!
I’d have to agree with you that Jeremy is one helluva good piper. He had that Gallagher set singing even in that heat and humidity. Really gives slackers like me something to shoot for.
The whole affair was very well run I thought. I had a friend up there all week taking the harp and guitar classes and he really enjoyed himself.
Hopefully next year they’ll see fit to conduct some piping classes. I just wish I could have stayed for the session(s) at the Bedford.
