I didn’t make this up. It’s Fox News syndication service.
RICHMOND, Virginia — Police say a man sought revenge against his ex-girlfriend by leaving homemade DVDs of her performing sex acts on car windshields throughout the area.

I’m ok with the sentence, but I find the image evoked a bit odd.
Uh, yeah, the way it’s written it would seem there were a lot of dirty windshields in Richmond. But, it’s Fox news so why am I not suprised?
Yeah. That’s the problem with the sentence.
O Participle! How you dangle so!
Well, if you ask me, any female who’d do such a thing and let her boyfriend videotape it deserves what she gets. It just goes to show that you should keep your perversions to yourself.
That girl would be a lot happier today if she’d kept that aspirin between her knees like her mama told her. At least it would have kept her out of the garage.
Tsk.

…and off those windshields. ![]()
Years ago my mother said something I’ll never forget.
I called her on the phone. We talked for a little while, and then she exclaimed, “I saw three deer today, driving across the countryside!”
Best wishes,
Jerry
I doubt that this woman’s apparent total sexual abandon is the big secret her ex-boyfriend seems to think it is. Had the town found her antics to be disturbing, I’m sure something would have been done about it before now. He could have saved himself time and trouble. Who is going to watch re-runs on a DVD when obviously you’ve only got to sit comfortably in the front seat of your car to see the live show?
If you actually went on to answer as though you’d bought the unintended reading, that would be a textbook example of what logicians call amphiboly, as would be Dale’s original sentence. I’m not sure anybody ever gets tricked by these grammatical ambiguities, although it’s a stock in trade of comedians.
Did you ask what was on the deer’s windshield?
I thought amphiboly was a board game for salamanders.
Good golly…you think an editor would have caught that one.

i agree with you completely, although that is pretty crooked for a cop to do something like that. they both deserve what they are going to get.

Just doesn’t seem safe to me. What if she had ot come to a sudden stop?

These types of ambiguities help to sell a paper or get a person to read an article. Bad puns, weasel words, framing, and other methods are used to help sell the reader the rest of the article. Often they are written by the copy editor and the writer has little to do with it.
