while some may find this sort of “decoration” highly distasteful, I think it’s quite artistic and in most cases skillfully done. Scroll work like this has been done on jewelry, firearms, and furniture for centuries. I’m a little supprised it isn’t more prolific in the custom instrument market. Cool photo though…
If anyone is interested in tarting up their pipes with cast or etched silver, brass, bronze (or gold if you’re uber-funded), feel free to contact me. I’ve been making jewelry for 12 years now. We might be able to work something out. When you think about it, it wouldn’t be much different than making a bunch of finger rings and a narrow bracelet. How about a ring to wear that matches your pipes also? If someone had a lot of sets and were looking to let a neglected half set go, I could decorate their primary set for trade? Think about it…

Maybe someone has said this already but GHB’ers have engraved metalwork on their sets.
Leave it to the frilly Scots.
PD.
Tony, I want one! I want one! Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! Sign me up. Where do I apply? ![]()

How about playing well? How about being able to make jigs, hornpipes, reels, set dances, etc. sound like something? This engraving stuff can be decorative and very nice, or completely over the top, but does it make anyone play better?
I, too, like a beautifully made set of pipes…but the sound is more important than looks. And the piper’s ability to bring the best out of the instrument is more important still.

Yea, verily, I am the guilty party.
The set was discovered south of the equator I believe; unfortunately, the current owner has asked me to keep further details to myself (not that there is anything dodgy going on I can assure you) which is fair enough.
I’ll leave questions regarding their aesthetic beauty to the eyes of the beholders…
Nuff said.
Cheers, Phil.
Ohhhhhhhhhh…yes!
Lovely…I especially like what GW has done with the bellows pad…ain’t that neat?
Old Anthony made could make a half decent fiddle too…(by the way, where did you get that photo of my fiddle from anyway
)
Cheers, Phil.
