Any 20th Century art afficionados here?

I’m trying to identify an artist for a friend and the usual searches have turned up naught. Y’all should understand that I’m even less competent in matters of art than I am in those of music. So why do people always ask ME this stuff?

If any of our many multitalented community are conversant with early/mid-20th century artists and would be willing to help via email or a private message, it’d be most appreciated.

TIA

Chuck

Cryptic. Picture? Score?

Is it Christo?

How many guesses do we get?

Jacques Lipschitz!

Post us some examples of the work…P…L…E…A…S…E(in a whining voice)

That’s one part of the trouble, I don’t have a picture, though I could probably get a digital picture of it if I needed to:

The picture as described to me is:

“A winter forest scene, with a stream flowing from mid left to lower right. Many snow-covered bushes and trees, with no structures or figures.”

The piece is signed “Donde” followed by a character that could be a stylized F, L or Y. It was reportedly purchased from the Findlay Gallery in Chicago in the mid-1950s for $1000, at that time a LOT of money. Its an oil painting, not a print.

* edited bcausew the dimwit that wrote it typed in the wrong gallery name

If the artist is Donde J. and the picture looks anything like this: http://glendalough.us/taneek/012.jpg
Then we have a start. I’ll PM you with a phone number to contact the owner of this painting. I can’t find anything much on him/her partly because Donde also means “where” in spanish, so I’m getting lots and lots of locations instead of persons.

Thanks - except for the angle of the stream, that certainly looks right - maybe a variant view of the same stream from a different angle?

Unfortunately, the lady seeking the info is not online. I’ll pass the phone number along to her and let her follow it uup as she will.

Well the subject matter is pretty similar anyhow, and the artist’s name is also. With a little luck your friend might be able to get some information from the owner of this painting. It is part of a very nice collection and is for sale for $1500.
