hmmm sodium laurel sulphate has a way bad wrap - my better half was suspicious of it a few years ago and was hard pressed to find any info anywhere that was not negative. We have since crossed our fingers and gone: “get thee behind me SLS!” (the good part of that was our grocery bill dropped like a rock, the downside was that we smell less nice these days) but nowhere was there any satisfactory evidence of an element called “Laurel”. Any chemists out there?
the “Laurel” in SLS is not an element - I’m pretty sure its a name for a specific configuration of organic molecule. However, I didn’t take Organic Chemistry in college, so I can’t be 100% sure.
My Burke DAN and Alba low F started to clog each time I played them, so I decided to do something about it. I dipped them in an almost-all-soap soap liquid and let them dry. It works perfectly. No problems since then. They don’t smell nor taste soap either (I don’t know if that’s just this very soap brand or my treatment). I will never find any need of purchasing any product to prevent clogging.
I do the same. Fairly concentrated solution of dishwashing soap, dripped in blowing hole and blade hole liberally with little dropper bottle that used to hold eye drops. I wipe off any excess on the outdside with damp cloth, blow out the mouthpiece and dry whole thing with another cloth. I think this has kept my whistle clean inside as well as seeming to prevent clogging. The maker’s instructions said to do this. I have never tasted the detergent but I’m sure it’s possible I’ve ingested a very tiny amount.
